WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team was led by three Belles who scored in double figures and closed out the game on an 11-1 run to take a 65-60 win over Lone Star Conference foe Midwestern State Wednesday night in Wichita Falls. The Rambelles have now won seven of their last eight games and improve to 16-9 on the season and 9-4 in conference action.
The Belles took an early 6-0 lead as Weishuhn was fouled on a lay-up and sunk the free throw to complete the three-point play. Although, Midwestern State (9-16, 5-8 LSC South) countered with six unanswered points of its own to even the score at six, the Belles surged ahead to regain a six-point advantage on a lay-up by freshman
Giselle Aguirre (12-6).
The Mustangs refused to back down and knotted the game at 14 at the 10:21 mark of the first half. Midwestern State took its first lead of the game on a jumper by Skyler Warrick at 8:13 to go up 16-14. After the Belles evened the score at 16 for the third tie of the game, the Mustangs went on an 11-1 run to take their largest lead of the game (27-17) with 3:39 left in the half. Despite the Belles efforts, they went into the locker room down by three (29-26) at halftime.
Angelo State was consistent in the second half as the Belles took an eight-point lead on a trey by
Lindsey Youngblood (43-35). The Rambelles held onto their lead until Nolisha Markham made a lay-up at 6:36 to put the Mustangs back on top by one (50-49). Midwestern State increased its lead to five on a Warrick jumper (59-54) at 3:35, but the Belles were not ready to concede. Angelo State put together an 11-1 run sparked by a
Lindsey Youngblood three-point shot to tie the game for the sixth and final time (59-59) en route to a 65-60 win over the Mustangs.
Midwestern State's Markham led all scorers with 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. The Mustangs recorded 21 points off the bench as Warrick and Kirsti Degelia each tallied eight points in the contest.
