Belles Win Home Opener Over Arlington Baptist 77-60

SAN ANGELO –
The Angelo State women's basketball team used a 31-9 run to start the game en route to a 77-60 victory over Arlington Baptist on Tuesday night at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Belles (2-1) were able to force the Lady Patriots (0-1) into 19 turnovers scoring 16 points. Six players would score in the opening 17-0 run to start the game.  Hillari Adam scored six, Leah LeMaire added three while Khalisha Lee, Ashlynn Graham, Haylee Oliver and Kayla Turner chipped in two.

Adam was the leading scorer and rebounder on the night. The junior scored 22 points and 14 rebounds with exactly half those at the end of the first half. It is Adam's first double-double in her career at ASU.

The Patriots would play even with the Belles over the final 10 minutes of the first half to make it 38-22 at the half.

Haylee Oliver and Adam kept the Belles going in the second half scoring 11 each. Oliver finished the night with 13 points and five rebounds.

The Patriots were able to keep it close with 12 three pointers including eight in the second half. ABC would cut the lead to 58-45 at the 6:39 mark before a bucket by Kellermeier sparked a 13-3 run over a span of 3:42.

ASU dominated the boards 48-27 and used the advantage to score 23 second chance points. The Belles recorded a season high 14 steals.

A total of 10 Belles were able to score with Kellermeier adding eight. Amanda Weaver and Kayla Turner both scored seven.

The Belles will return to the court at 7 p.m. on Thursday for an exhibition game at Abilene Christian.
