Turner's Three Gives Belles 52-49 Win Over CSU-Pueblo

CANYON, Texas  –Kayla Turner hit a three pointer with 24 seconds left to give the Angelo State women's basketball team a 52-49 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo in the first game of the West Texas A&M Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic in Canyon.

The Belles (3-3) battled back from a seven point halftime deficit to outscore the Thunderwolves (3-2) 27-18 in the second half. Colorado State-Pueblo led throughout the second half until a pair of free throws by Leah LeMaire tied the game at 4:10 to go. The two teams traded layups before Turner hit the three on a pass from Michelle Rosewell. Rosewell would steal the ball on the ensuing possession to seal the victory. 

"I am so proud of the fight our team showed today," head coach Cayla Petree said after the game. "In every game, there are character moments and when those moments came today we showed up. It was a team total team effort that we have to match again versus Incarnate Word tomorrow."

ASU hit 37.8-percent from the field including seven three pointers while limiting the Thunderwolves to 31.6-percent shooting including only 24-percent shooting in the second half. CSU-Pueblo struggled at the free throw line hitting 4-of-11 while the Belles hit 84.6-percent (11-of-13) from the charity stripe.

Hillari Adam led the Belles with 13 points and nine rebounds. Rochelle Norris added 10 points while Amanda Weaver chipped in nine. Turner scored six points with both shots coming from behind the arc.

The Belles started the game on an 8-0 run as Adam and Turner both would hit three-pointers. The Thunderwolves responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minute span to go up 11-10.

Down 21-16 at the 7:21 mark, a layup by Adam would spark a 9-2 ASU run. Norris would hit two free throws to give the Belles a 25-23 lead. The Thunderwolves would finish the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 31-25 to the locker room.

The Belles return to action tomorrow against former LSC foe Incarnate Word at 12 p.m.
