SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will host Texas Woman's on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Belles are 7-5 on the season and 1-1 in the LSC after a 74-56 loss to No. 15 Tarleton State on Wednesday. ASU has won five of its last seven games including opening conference play with a win over Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Belles first game of the weekend will be against Texas Woman's. The Pioneers are 5-7 on the season and 1-2 in the LSC. TWU has dropped all three games on the road. The Pioneers are led by Rebekah Cluley and Kenesha Saygo, who are scoring 10.7 and 10.4 points per game, respectively. The Belles own the all-time series lead at 30-21 but TWU has won two of the last three games including last year in San Angelo.
It will be the second matchup between Angelo State and Texas A&M-Commerce. The Belles came back from a six point halftime deficit to beat the Lions 55-54 on Jan. 2.
Amanda Weaver led the way with 16 points and
Rochelle Norris added 11. The Belles have a 41-22 series advantage and have won five out of the last six contests including the last three. The Lions come in with a 2-10 record overall and 1-2 in conference play.
ASU is the league leader in scoring defense at  54.8 points per game while also limiting teams to only 36.1-percent shooting from the field. The Belles as a team are shooting 39.1-percent from the field and averaging 58.7 points per game.
At Stephens Arena this season, the Belles are 2-2 and averaging 62.0 points per game. The scoring defense has been stellar at the season average of 54.8 points per game. ASU outrebounds team by eight while at the Junell Center and force 19.5 turnovers.
The Belles are 2-0 at home when shooting over 40-percent from the field and having double digit steals.
The Belles leading scorer,
Hillari Adam, is averaging 13.7 points per game on the season but has played better at home scoring 16.3 per game. She averages 9.0 rebounds per game at Stephens Arena which is higher than her 7.1 per game during the season. Adam is sixth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounds.Â
Weaver, the league leader in three point percentage, is scoring 9.3 points per game and has hit 25 three's this season. The sophomore has only hit five from behind the arc at the Junell Center and has scored 6.0 per game.
The Belles had
Kayla Turner find her shot against Tarleton State. The junior scored eight points with six of the points coming from three-pointers. The Amarillo native scored 9.0 points per game at home while is above her season average of 5.8 per game.
Karli Kellermeier, the team leader in steals with 23, has recorded seven of her team high steals at home. The junior is averaging 7.7 points per game overall and has scored 6.8 while at home. Kellermeier is grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game on the season which is slightly above her 6.3 rebounds at home. Â The Wall native is fifth in the league at 1.9 steals per game.Â
Norris is the Belles team's third leading scorer at 7.7 per game. The senior has scored 6.0 per game while at Stephens Arena and grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game.
Tati Haynes had a career night against Tarleton State scoring 13 points. The senior played 17 minutes and also grabbed three rebounds.
Haylee Oliver leads the team in assists with 37 assists with 21 of the assists coming at the Junell Center. Oliver is seventh in the LSC in assists per game at 3.1.Â
The 1993-1994 Belle basketball team will be recognized during halftime of Saturday's game against Texas Woman's. The team was the first women's basketball team to win a Lone Star Conference championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.Â
The 2014 Angelo State Athletic Hall of Honor inductees will be recoginzed during halftime on Sunday with a reception to follow between the Belle and Ram basketball games.Â
