SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team hit the road to face Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M. on Saturday at 3 p.m. CST at Greyhound Arena.
The Belles dropped to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference after a loss to No. 7 West Texas A&M. Angelo State is still the No. 1 scoring defense in the conference at 56.1 points per game and rank No. 2 in the league in defensive field goal percentage at 36.3-percent. ASU is fifth in the league in steals per game at 9.3. Last night was the first game that the Belles have recorded double-digit steals and failed to win the game. ASU is 7-1 this season when having at least 10 steals.
ASU will look to get back on track after struggling shooting against West Texas A&M. The 7.1-percent from the three-point line is the lowest single game percentage and the 27.5-percent from the field was the third worse of the season. Angelo State's best shooting percentage of 54-percent was on the road against UT-Permian Basin.
On the road this season, ASU is 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference. Opponents are scoring 60.4 against the Bells and hit 37.3-percent of their shots. Angelo State is making 37.5-percent from the field while only scoring 54.8 on the road. The two road wins came against UT-Permian Basin and Texas A&M-Commerce with the losses coming at St. Marys, Western New Mexico and to No. 15 Tarleton State.
Eastern New Mexico enters with a record of 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the LSC. The Zias are 3-1 at home and will be after their second-straight win. Jasmine Johnson is the team's leading scorer at 10.5 points per game. Tori Tucker, the team's second-leading scorer at 9.6 per game, is the top rebounder for the Zias at 6.7 rebounds per game. ENMU is the No. 2 in free throw percentage hitting 71.4-percent from the charity stripe.
The Belles hold a 37-22 overall series advantage and have won the last two games. The last time ASU won in Portales was on Jan. 26, 2011 in a 46-31 game.
The Belles will hope to welcome back leading scorer
Hillari Adam after missing the last two games due to an injury. The junior is averaging 12.9 points per game this season and 6.8 rebounds. She is fourth in the league in rebounds and eighth in scoring. The Wall native has scored 11 points per game on the road this season.
Rochelle Norris, who led the Belles with 12 points against West Texas A&M, is leading the team in scoring during conference play at 11 points per game. Her season average of 8.8 is currently third on the team. The Dallas native has scored in double figured in three-straight games including a season high 16 against Texas A&M-Commerce. Norris is tied with Adam for most games in double figures with nine.
Ashlynn Graham had a career night against West Texas A&M. The freshman played a career high 16 minutes and scored a career high five points. The San Antonio native grabbed three rebounds and made three steals on the night. Graham has scored nine points and recorded six rebounds in the last two games.
Amanda Weaver, who is third in scoring at 8.9 per game, was held to her second lowest output of the season at five points. The sophomore is scoring 9.2 points per game in conference play and 10.8 on the road. Â The Center Point native has hit 29 three's this season including 10 coming on the road.
Kayla Turner will look to find her shooting touch after an off night. After scoring a season high 19 points against Texas A&M-Commerce, the junior was held to just two points on two free throws.
Michelle Rosewell started her second-straight game and played 27 minutes. The junior scored two points and dished out a team high three assists. The Grapevine native is averaging 2.5 points per game this season but has upped her scoring in conference play at 5.0. Rosewell scored a season high 12 points against Texas Woman's.
Leah LeMaire had her best game of the season on Texas Woman's last Saturday. The senior scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds. The Corpus Christi native is averaging 6.6 points per game and 6.2 during conference.
Haylee Oliver still leads the team with 46 assists on the season while
Karli Kellermeier is tops in steals with 25. Oliver is scoring 3.1 points per game and Kellermeier averages 6.1.
Tati Haynes has seen her minutes go up during conference play. The senior is averaging 9.2 minutes per game and has seen 12.4. The Pontiac, Mich., native is scoring 3.3 points per game this season but has increased her scoring to 5.0 in conference. She has a season high 13 points against Tarleton State.
