SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will make its home debut on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. against UT-Permian Basin at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
The Belles are 0-2 after dropping games to St. Mary's and Southern Arkansas at the Tarleton State Invitational.
Jasmine Caston was named to the all-tournament team after leading ASU with a 19.5 scoring average.
ASU will try to get fast start on Tuesday. The Belles were outscored 72-52 combined in the first half while playing an even 72-72 in the second half. The free throw line was a benefit to the Belles as the team went to the line a total of 47 times (18.5 per game) and made 78.7-percent. ASU is hitting 40.8-percent from the field but just 13.6-percent from the 3-point line. The Belles will look to limit turnovers after committing 20.5 per game.
Caston scored a season high 23 point in the loss to St. Mary's. She hit 44-percent of her shots and averaged 5.5 rebounds.
The twin sisters, Jasmine and
Jackie Patterson, helped with the scoring load.
Jackie Patterson averaged 14.0 points per game while
Jackie Patterson scored 11.0 points per game. The duo combined for nine assists and 23 rebounds over the weekend.
Freshman Shaunda Coleman started the first two games of her collegiate career and averaged 22.5 minutes per game. She scored 4.0 points per game after only shooting 27-percent.Another freshman,
Kietta Saunders, played significant minutes for the Belles. She dished out three assists and made one steal while averaging 12.5 minutes per game.
Amanda Weaver was only able to hit 1-of-7 from behind the arc. The junior scored 4.5 points per game but did make three steals.
Michelle Rosewell,
Lexi Murphy and
Diamalises Rivera each averaged 2.0 points per game with Murphy grabbing 1.5 rebounds per game.
UTPB is 1-0 on the season after upsetting No. 1 West Texas A&M 77-73 in Canyon last Friday night. Valerie Barriga led the Falcons with 28 points. Two other Falcons, Trish Simpson (14 points) and Giselle Loya (14 points), scored in double figures.
This is the first of two-straight home games at the Junell Center. After Tuesday's game, the Belles will host Lubbock Christian on Monday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.Â
