Belles to Play in St. Mary's Classic

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State women's basketball team will play Colorado State-Pueblo and St. Mary's at the St. Mary's Classic in San Antonio on Saturday and Sunday.

The Belles are 0-4 but have been competitive in every game this season. ASU is hitting 37.1-percent from the field while opponents are making 40.2-percent. Opponents average 69.8 points per game compared to 59.2 for the Belles. ASU has struggled with turnovers committing 21.3 per game but excel at the free throw line with a 71.4-percent average.

The Belles last game saw the Belles cut a 19-point lead down to four points in the second half but was unable to complete the comeback. ASU won the rebounding battle 53-45 and received 26 points from the bench. The Belles struggled shooting only 29.2-percent from the field.

This will be the first meeting of the season with CSU-Pueblo and second meeting this season between ASU and St. Mary's. The Rattlers took the season-opening game for both schools 74-60 at the Tarleton State Invite.

Jasmine Caston is the team's leading scorer at 14.5 points per game. Her 12 points against LCU was the third game in which the sophomore has hit double-digit points. The first time against St. Mary's she scored a season-high 23 points.

Jackie Patterson had her best rebounding game of the season against LCU with 11 rebounds. She is averaging 9.5 points per game and tops on the team with 6.5 rebounds. Amanda Weaver is third on the team with 8.3 points per game. She has hit seven 3-pointers this season which is No. 1 for ASU.

Shauna Coleman and Jasmine Patterson are both averaging 8.0 points per game. Coleman has had back-to-back double-digit scoring games with 13 and 11 points. Patterson has a season high of 14 points scored against Southern Arkansas.

Elaine Herrera is fourth on the team in scoring with 4.0 points while teammate Diamalises Rivera is making 2.5 points per game. Herrera is tied for the team lead with Jackie Patterson  with seven assists each while Rivera leads the team with three blocks on the team.

Kietta Saunders, Michelle Rosewell, Lexi Murphy, Keva Raiford, Shanna Taylor and KeAnna Kelly have all seen action this season. Rosewell averages 20.0 minutes per game and has dished out five assists.

The Belles will face Colorado State-Pueblo at 1 p.m. on Saturday while facing the tournament host St. Mary's on Sunday at 1 p.m.
