DENTON, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team lost to Texas Woman's 81-57 at Kitty Winter Magee on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles (13-10, 7-6 LSC) struggled shooting especially in the second half. ASU hit 27.4-percent from the field in the game but was limited to 21.9-percent in the second half. The Pioneers (14-9, 9-4 LSC) made 57.1-percent of their shots in the game including 61.5-percent in the second half.
The first half was close until the buzzer. The Belles jumped out to an early 6-2 lead after TWU scored the opening points of the game. The Pioneers responded with a 10-2 run over the next 2:35 to go up 12-8.
Haylee Oliver hit a jumper to spark an 11-4 run capped by a
Karli Kellermeier 3-point that gave the Belles a 19-16 with 8:15 to go in the first half. Texas Woman's took a 28-23 lead with 2:19 with a 12-4 run.
ASU would outscore TWU 9-3 over the final 2:19 including a 3-pointer by
Amanda Weaver to take a 32-31 lead at the break.
The second half was all Texas Woman's as the Pioneers came out with a 13-0 run to retake the lead at 44-32. The Belles only hit 21.9-percent in the second half while allowing TWU to shoot 61.5-percent and score 50 points.
ASU committed 10 second half turnovers while TWU added 20 of its 26 points in the paint in the second half.
Leah LeMaire led all scorers with a season-high 18 points.
Hillari Adam added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Four Pioneers scored in double figures led by 13 from Mary Kovtun and Barbara-Scott Kolb.
ASU will return to action on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.Â
