Belles Travel to No. 5 West Texas A&M

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will face No. 5 West Texas A&M in Canyon on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the First United Bank Center.

The Belles (11-8, 5-4 LSC) enter the game with the No. 1 scoring defense in the Lone Star Conference and No. 8th nationally at 57.4 per game. ASU is averaging 59.9 points per game this season and hits 39.4-percent from the field. ASU is 3-4 on the road this season.

Angelo State has won its last two conference game after losing three-straight. The difference in the games has been the first half. In the last two games, the Belles have outscored teams 74-44 in the first half alone. The Belles have dominated the first half in wins this season averaging 32.2 points while holding opponents to 22.6. ASU is 9-0 in games when leading at halftime this season.

In the Belles eight loses they only average 24.7 points while opponents score 32.5 in the first half. ASU is 2-8 on the season when trailing at halftime.

Senior leadership has led the Belles in the two games. Tatiana Haynes, who has scored in double figures in the last four games, has been the team's leading scorer in back-to-back games. Haynes scored 13 against Cameron while recording a season-high 16 against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Pontiac, Mich., native averages 5.5 points per game on the season but in conference play she has increased it to 8.1. She is fourth on the team in scoring against conference opponents.

Rochelle Norris has also stepped up during LSC games. The senior is tops on the team against conference opponents at 10.7 points per game and 5.6 rebounds. The Dallas native is second on the team overall at 9.1 per game. Norris has scored in double figures in 12 games this season with seven being in conference games.

Hillari Adam, the Belles leading scorer at 11.9 per game, is 10th in the LSC in scoring and 8th in rebounding at 6.2 per game. The senior has two double-doubles on the season and hit double-digit scoring in 10 games.

Leah LeMaire had her first double-double of the season in the win over Cameron with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The senior is averaging 7.1 points per game this season and 7.5 during conference games.

Karli Kellermeier had her best game of the season against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Wall native recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The 11 points ties a season high and the 11 rebounds are a season high for the junior.

Amanda Weaver, who is third on the team in scoring at 8.6 per game, is one of the Belles top threats from the 3-point line. The Center Point native hits 38.9-percent from behind the arc. Her 3-point percentage has dropped in conference play to 31.1-percent but the sophomore has hit 34.4-percent on the road.

Michelle Rosewell continues her steady play. The Grapevine native has started the last six games for the Belles and has averaged 29.3 minutes per game. She is averaging 3.2 points per game and is second on the team in assists with 45. She is second on the team in assists during conference play with 25 and tied for the team lead in steals with Norris.

Haylee Oliver is the team leader in assists with 59. She averages 3.1 per game and is ninth in the LSC. The San Saba native is scoring 3.7 per game overall and 4.6 in conference games.

The Lady Buffs are 17-1 on the season and 8-0 in the Lone Star Conference. WT is No. 1 in the LSC in assist to turnover ratio (1.24), assists per game (19.7), scoring margin (22.4) and scoring offense (80.6). The Lady Buffs are second nationally in scoring margin and No. 11 in scoring offense. WT is also second in the league in scoring defense at 58.2.

West Texas A&M won the first matchup 81-42. The Lady Buffs shot 49.2-percent from the field and 40.7-percent from the 3-point line. It was the second-lowest offensive output of the season for the Belles. ASU struggled shooting only 27.5-percent from the field and 7.1 from the 3-point line.

Devin Griffin, WT's leading scorer at 13.8 points per game, scored six in the win. Chontiquah White is averaging 12.4 on the season and scored 14 point with eight rebounds in the first meeting. A total of five Lady Buffs scored in double figures led by Danielle Logan's 15 points. Logan went 5-of-9 from behind the arc.

WT holds the series record 48-18 and have won the last three. The Belles have dropped nine-straight games in Canyon with the last win coming on Feb. 3, 2005.
