SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday against Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference game at the Junell Center.
The Belles (5-9, 0-4 LSC) are looking to snap a four-game losing streak, while the Zias (5-8, 1-2 LSC) are coming off a 77-58 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday for their first conference victory of the season. ASU has opened conference play with losses to Tarleton State, Texas Woman's, A&M-Commerce and dropped an 80-49 decision at West Texas A&M on Wednesday. The Belles, who split their season series with ENMU last year, are 3-3 at home this season and are averaging 63.6 points per game.
Jasmine Caston leads the Belles this season with 14.4 points per game and 22 steals and also has 4.1 rebounds per game. Caston scored 11 points on Wednesday against West Texas A&M and has scored in double figures in 11 games this season. She scored a season-high 23 points against St. Mary's and Texas Woman's and secured a season-best eight rebounds against McMurry.
Amanda Weaver is second on the team with 10.8 points per game and leads the Belles with 34 3-pointers this season. She scored a career-high 25 points last Sunday at A&M-Commerce and is shooting 47.2 percent on 3-pointers this season. Weaver also leads ASU with 32 assists and has 10 steals.
Caston and Weaver are both averaging 14.0 points per game through the first four conference games of the season. Weaver has eight assists and has made 12 3-pointers in the four LSC games and is shooting 48.0 percent from beyond the arc. Caston has added seven steals in conference play.
Shauna Coleman is adding 6.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the Belles in her freshman season, while
Diamalises Rivera is averaging 3.4 rebounds and 4.8 points per game. Coleman scored a season-best 16 points and had 11 rebounds in her first double-double of her career against Arlington Baptist and has scored in double figures in four games this season. Rivera scored a career-high 11 points in ASU's second meeting against St. Mary's and is coming off scoring eight points against the Lady Buffs.
The Zias' win over the Javelinas snapped a three-game losing streak which included losses to Tampa, Cameron and Midwestern State and they are 2-6 this season away from Portales. Tori Tucker leads ENMU this season with 12.3 points per game and is also pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game. Sarah Stinnett joins Tucker in double digits with 11.6 points per game and is shooting 43.4 percent from the field on 136 shot attempts.
Jasmine Johnson is leading ENMU with 7.4 rebounds per game and comes into San Angelo needing only four rebounds for 100 on the season. She also leads the team with 15 steals, while Tucker has 14 steals. Johnson is third on the team in scoring, averaging 7.3 points per game, while Shayla Williams is at 6.7 points per game and Brittany Gutierrez is averaging 6.5 points per game. Gutierrez leads the Zias with a 52.3 field-goal percentage (34 of 65) and Cassidy Doherty leads the team with 35 assists.
The Belles will return to action next week by travelling to play Midwestern State at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls before hosting Cameron on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. back at the Junell Center.
