SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team returns to the Junell Center on Saturday at 4 p.m. to host Lone Star Conference opponent Cameron.
The Belles are 5-11 on the season and 0-6 in the LSC and hoping to snap a six-game losing streak. ASU is 3-4 at home this season but four of its last six games have been on the road. Angelo State is averaging 62.9 points per game this season and winning on the boards 39.8 to 38.6. Â
At the Junell Center, the Belles are hitting 66.1 points per game while limiting opponents to 61.9. Opponents are being held to 36-percent from the floor and only 27-percent from the 3-point line. The Belles are hitting 42-percent from the field and 32-percent from behind the arc while out rebounding teams 44.4 to 36.0.
Jasmine Caston and
Amanda Weaver continue to be the Belles leading scorers. Caston is averaging 13.7 points per game this season and scoring 11.1 at the Junell Center. She has 12 games in double figures and five of those have come at the Junell Center. The sophomore also leads the Belles with 25 steals. Weaver, who has hit 36 three pointers this season, is scoring 10.3 points per game. She is the top scorer at the Junell Center at 11.4 points per game. The Center Point native is No. 2 in the LSC hitting 40.9-percent from the field and leads ASU with 39 assists.
Shauna Coleman, who is third on the team in scoring at 7.1 points per game, scored 13 against Midwestern State. It is the most points for the freshman since scoring a career-high 16 points against Arlington Baptist. She has five games in double figures.
Diamalises Rivera is scoring 5.6 points per game this season. In the Junell Center, the junior scored 5.7 points per game. She has three games in double figures and her career-high of 14 points came at the Junell Center against ENMU.
Michelle Rosewell is coming off a career game against Midwestern State. The senior scored a career-high 13 points this past Wednesday. It was the first double-digit scoring game of the season. She is second on the team with 32 assists and 16 steals.
Leila Jdily-Ezzad has 12 assists this season with two steals in just six games for the Belles. The junior transfer scored nine points in the loss at Midwestern State. The other newcomer,
Minja Savic, scores 2.0 points per game and grabs 3.3 rebounds.
Two other freshmen,
KeAnna Kelly and
Kietta Saunders, are making an impact. Kelly hit two 3-pointers against Midwestern State. She is scoring 3.8 points per game and has seven assists. Saunders is scoring 1.5 points per game with her career-high of seven points coming against West Texas A&M.
Cameron in 8-7 on the season and lead the LSC standings with a 5-1 record. The Aggies are 3-5 on the road but average 70.4 points per game. The lone conference road loss came at West Texas A&M. Jazzmine Robinson leads CU with 18.0 points per game and 8.3 rebounds. Brandi Leal (12.9) and Jade Herl (10.0) are also scoring in double figures for the Aggies.
The Belles lead the all-time series with Cameron at 26-19 and are 7-3 in the last 10 games. Cameron won the matchup last season at the Junell Center 63-59.
