No. 4/7 Belles Return to Action on the Road Versus Cameron on Saturday

SAN ANGELO – The No. 4/7 Angelo State women's basketball team returns to action after its Christmas Break with a Lone Star Conference matchup in Lawton, Oklahoma, against Cameron on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.

The Belles are 9-0 on the season and 3-0 in the LSC. ASU leads the LSC in points per game (81.8) while holding opponents to 61.1 points and just 38.3-percent from the field. Angelo State is excelling in forcing turnovers at a conference high 20.8 per game while also having the top assist to turnover ratio at 1.1 per game. Opponents have been outrebounded by 7.4 per game while ASU is also recording 9.8 steals and 3.1 blocks per game.

Angelo State is currently No. 7 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and No. 4 in the D2SIDA Media poll. The 9-0 start is the best under head coach Kevin Baker and the best start since starting the year 16-0 in 2002-03.

Leading ASU's scoring efforts has been senior Taylor Dorsey. The Fort Worth native is No. 16 nationally in 20.2 points per game. She has scored in double figures in eight of ASU's nine games while scoring at least 20 points in five games. Dorsey's season high is 30 points scored versus Minnesota-Crookston. She also leads the team in steals (24) and assists (36).

Jasmine Prophet is leading the Belles rebounding efforts with 6.6 rebounds per game and is second in scoring at 11.4 points per game. She leads ASU with 12 blocks in just 18.9 minutes player per game. She has five games in double figures including the last two games during the Holiday Hoops Classic.

Bria Frierson had her best two games of the season at the Holiday Hoops Classic and earned most outstanding player honors. The junior recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds against Western Washington and followed it up with eight points and seven rebounds versus Northern Nazarene. She is averaging 7.7 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game this season.

Helping the offensive efforts has been Lexi Murphy with 9.0 points per game. She has added 22 assists and has added 22 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game while hitting a team high 43.5-percent from the 3-point line.  

Chenelle Pelle and Madi Greenwood have been keys to a high-scoring bench with both scoring 8.1 points per game. Pelle has scored in double figures in four games this season while grabbing 4.3 rebounds per game. Greenwood led ASU with a career high 17 points in the win over Northern Nazarene. The junior has dished out 14 assists and blocked five shots on the year.

Keanna Kelly is tied for the team lead in 3-pointers this season with 10. The junior scored 7.4 points per game and is tied for second on the team with 22 assists. Christina Robinson has 21 assists on the season while pouring in 6.8 points per game. She is one of five Belles with at least 10 steals with 14 on the season.

Kiahna Curry, Bethany Ross and Shauna Coleman have seen action off the bench for ASU this season. Curry is scoring 2.3 points per game in 8.8 minutes per game while Ross has played 9.8 minutes per game this season. Coleman has played in seven games and grabbed seven rebounds.

Cameron enters the game with a 3-6 overall record and 1-2 in the LSC. The Belles lost 87-83 on the road in overtime in Lawton last season but won 71-63 in San Angelo. Savanna James leads the Aggies with 15.0 points per game.
