SAN ANGELO – The No. 15 Angelo State women's basketball team will continue its road trip and face Texas Woman's in Denton on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.
The Belles improved to 6-1 on the road with its 70-63 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in their last matchup on Tuesday. ASU will look to win its first game in Denton since Feb. 23, 2013. Angelo State is scoring 81.1 points per game while making 44.3 percent from the field. Opponents are being held to 65.5 points per game and only 38.8 percent from the field.
Texas Woman's enters with a 12-6 record overall and 5-5 in the LSC. The Pioneers lost the first meeting this season with ASU 74-53 in San Angelo. Kenesha Saygo, who leads TWU in scoring at 16.6 points per game, scored a team high 15 points.
Jasmine Prophet, who led the team in scoring against TWU with 18 points, is second on the team in scoring at 13.8 points. She is the team leader in rebounds at 6.5 per game and total blocks with 24. Â The senior has scored in double figures in the last 10 games and 13 this season. Prophet leads the team in shooting percentage (.593) and is second in free throw percentage (.821).
Taylor Dorsey, the LSC leading scorer at 19.2 points per game, scored just nine against TWU in the first matchup between the two teams. The senior leads ASU in assists (75) and steals (37) and hits 47 percent from the field. Dorsey has scored in double figures in five of the last six games while also grabbing 4.4 rebounds per game.
Christina Robinson was clutch from the free throw line against Texas A&M-Kingsville hitting 6-of-8 down the stretch to secure a 70-63 win. The senior is third on the team in scoring at 8.7 points per game and scored 10 points in the first meeting with the Pioneers. She has the second most assists with 45 and has recorded 23 steals.
Lexi Murphy, Madi Greenwood and Chenelle Pelle have been key contributors off the bench. Murphy scores 8.5 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds at 5.6 per game. She added 11 points and seven rebounds in the TWU game earlier this season. Greenwood, who hit three 3-pointers against TAMUK, averages 8.2 points per game and chipped in four points against TWU. Pelle scores 7.8 points per game and grabs 4.3 rebounds. She is coming off an 11 points game against TAMUK.
Bria Freirson took a pivotal charge late against TAMUK to give ASU possession on Tuesday. The junior scored 6.9 points per game and contributed 10 points versus TWU. She also grabs 4.3 rebounds and has recorded 18 steals on the season.
Keanna Kelly has scored 6.1 points per game this season and chipped in a season high 12 points against TWU earlier this season. The junior has 20 steals to her credit and handed out 34 assists.
Kiahna Curry, Bethany Ross and Shauna Coleman have provided depth for ASU this season off the bench as well. Curry has hit seven 3-pointers this season while Ross averages two points a game in conference play and grabbed 2.1 rebounds per game. Coleman is 7-of-9 from the free throw line. She has also grabbed 11 rebounds with 10 coming on the offensive end.
