SNA ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will return to Stephens Arena at the Junell Center for a pair of games on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. against No. 2/5 West Texas A&M and Texas Permian Basin on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.
The Belles are 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the LSC while winning four of their last six games. ASU is top 20 nationally in blocked shots per game (5.1), rebounds per game (44.6) and rebounding margin (8.1). Angelo State has the best free throw percentage at 74.5 percent rebounding defense (44.7), defensive rebounds (29.3) and blocked shots in the LSC.
West Texas A&M is 14-0 on the season and 6-0 in the LSC. The Lady Buffs ended the Belles season last year in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Final. ASU holds a 4-2 advantage in the series over the last two seasons. UTPB is 5-9 on the year and 2-2 in the LSC with a game against Texas A&M-Kingsville before making its way to San Angelo.
De'Anira Moore is the top scorer and rebounder for ASU and is ranked nationally in several categories. She is No. 11 in blocked shots per game (2.92), No. 36 in double-doubles (6), No. 2 in offensive rebounds per game (5.0) and No. 32 in rebounds per game (10.1). She scores 14.1 points per game while scoring at least 10 points in 10 games this season. The sophomore has also added double-digit rebounds in six games this year. She is currently No. 4 in scoring and No. 2 rebounds in the LSC.
Ekiya Gray has scored 12.2 points per game in her five games this season. She also grabs 7.2 rebounds per contest. The senior has made 52.6 percent from the field and hit double figures in three games.
Marquita Daniels is in the top 10 of NCAA Division II in steals per game at No. 9. She has recorded 41 steals and makes 3.4 per game. The Atlanta native also scored 1.9 points per game and is tops on the team in assists with 37. She has recorded double figures in nine games including the last four.
Dezirae Hampton is fourth on the team in scoring with 11.5 per game. She scored a career high 15 against Texas A&M-Commerce last Saturday. The junior has 10 games in double figures including the last six straight. She is third on the team with 18 three pointers and hits .419 from the field. The Arlington native is second on the team with 7.5 per game while adding 24 assists and eight steals.
Madi Greenwood continues to excel at the free throw line making 92.5 percent which is No. 7 in Division II. She scores 10.9 points per game and leads the team with 22 three pointers. She hits 40.0 percent from the field and a 44.9 from behind the arc. She is one of five players with at least 20 assists with 23 on the season.
Keanna Kelly is right under double figures in scoring at 8.7 per game. She has mad the second most 3-pointers with 19 while also handing out 22 assists. She has recorded 13 steals and makes 81.0 percent from the charity stripe.
Kynese Davis, Mikayla Blount, Dearria Watson and Aaliyah Warren have made significant contributions off the bench. Davis is second on the team with 32 assists and scored 4.0 points per game. Blount has averaged 15.8 minutes per contest and made eight 3-pointers on the year. Wtason scored 1.9 points and 1.6 rebounds while Warren has grabbed 20 total rebounds on the year.
