SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team (8-1 (3-0 LSC)) will look to remain unbeaten in conference play Thursday as they take on Texas Woman's University at home.
The team has been led in scoring and rebounding by junior post De'Anira Moore, who is averaging 16.2 points and nine rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent from the field. She also averages 0.9 blocks per contest. Senior guards Marquita Daniels and Dezirae Hampton have also been integral parts of the team this season. Daniels averages 15.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, four assists, and 3.7 steals per game while Hampton averages 14.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.2 steals per contest. These numbers combined make them one of the best backcourts in the nation.
Senior transfer Maria Delgado has also been a difference maker on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor. She is averaging 9.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest while shooting 43 percent from the field and 38 percent from the three point line. Junior transfers Asia Davis and Catara Samuel have also been big parts of the rotation and have given the Belles consistent production all year long. Davis is averaging 8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game, while Samuel averages 5.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and one steal per contest. They have also combined for 30 assists while providing needed depth for the team.
Three other players average double digit minutes per game, including Essence Johnson, Sidney Smith, and Mikayla Blount, who combine to average around 10 points and three rebounds per contest.
Texas Woman's comes into Thursday's contest with a record of 5-5 (2-0 LSC) and having lost their last two games.
