SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will look to maintain their Lone Star Conference lead this weekend as they take on Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce at home.
The Belles (14-2, 9-1 LSC) are led by senior guard Marquita Daniels, who averages 15.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 3.4 steals per game. She is one of three Belles averaging double figures in points. The other two are junior post De'Anira Moore and senior guard Dezirae Hampton. Moore is averaging 14.7 points and a team leading 7.7 rebounds per game, while Hampton averages 13.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 40 percent from the three point line.
Other strong contributors this season include Asia Davis, Maria Delgado, Catara Samuel, Essence Johnson, and Mikayla Blount. Davis has started all but one game this season and is averaging 9.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Delgado averages 8.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 37 percent from the three point line. Samuel is averaging 5.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Johnson is averaging 4.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest while shooting a team leading 65 percent from the field, and Blount averages 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 39 percent from the three point line.
Tarleton State comes into Thursday's matchup with a record of 13-5 (6-4 LSC) and having won three consecutive games.
Texas A&M-Commerce comes into Saturday's game with a record of 12-6 (7-3 LSC) and having won their last two games.
