SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team takes to the road this week as they travel to Tyler, Texas and Commerce, Texas to face the University of Texas-Tyler Patriots on Thursday, January 30, and the nationally ranked No. 4 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Saturday, February 1.
The Belles are 11-5 overall and 8-4 in conference.

Series Matchup:
This will be the first time in school history that ASU and UT-Tyler have played each other on the basketball court. The Patriots are currently 3-14 overall, with a 1-12 conference record. Crouse leads the Patriots in scoring with 192 points, and is averaging 11.3 points a game. On defense, Beezy Birchette leads the Patriots with 115 total rebounds, 39 on offense and 76 on defense.
Since 2006, Angelo State and Texas A&M-Commerce have played each other 20 times. The last time the Belles and Lions faced each other was on February 2, 2019, when the Belles defeated the Lions at home, 84-70.
Marquita Daniels led the Belles offense against the Lions, scoring 22 points for Angelo State. Daniels shot 9-12 from the field, 3-4 from the three point line, and 1-2 from the free throw line.
Maria Delgado led the Belles defensively, grabbing seven total rebounds, one on offense and six on defense, along with four assists.
Players to Watch:
Catara Samuel continues to show her offensive capabilities on the court for the Belles, scoring 16 points against both the St. Edwards Hilltoppers and the St. Mary's Rattlers this past weekend. Samuel shot 9-15 from the field, 5-7 from the three point line, and 9-10 from the free throw line. Samuel went 100% from the three point line against the Rattlers on Saturday, shooting 4-4 from beyond the line. Samuel also recorded four steals and six assists. Samuel is ranked seventh in the conference for scoring, averaging 14.1 points a game.
Sawyer Lloyd, the true freshman from Wall, Texas, continues to shine for Angelo State as she scored 23 points for the Belles this past weekend. Lloyd shot 8-16 from the field, 5-9 from the three point line, and 2-2 from the free throw line. Lloyd registered nine total rebounds, three on offense and six on defense, along with one block, two steals, and four assists.
De'Anira Moore continues to be the Belles powerhouse in the paint that cannot be stopped. Moore scored 24 points for the Belles over the weekend, shooting 9-17 from the paint, and 6-7 from the free throw line. Moore registered 13 total rebounds for the Belles, two on offense and 11 on defense, as well as one assist and two blocks. Moore is ranked fourth in the conference for scoring, averaging 17 points a game.
