Rambelles Open LSC Play with Pair of Road Games

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team opens Lone Star Conference play this weekend with a pair of rematches on the road, facing St. Edward's on New Year's Eve (1 p.m. tipoff) before taking on St. Mary's on Sunday, January 2nd (2 p.m. tipoff).

The Rambelles, who are 3-8 on the season, have won their last three games, including non-conference wins over the Hilltoppers and Rattlers.

In the Rambelles' last game before the break, they defeated Huston-Tillotson 82-39.

The Rambelles have two players that are averaging double-digit scoring, with Payton Brown and Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant both averaging 10.0 points per game. The Wayland Baptist transfers are also the top two on the team in steals.

Blakely Gerber is averaging 9.7 points per game and shooting a team-best 83.3 percent from the free-throw line while Madeline Stephens is averaging 8.5 points per game while also grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game, best on the team.
 
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
St. Edward's is 7-4 overall on the season and went 2-2 against LSC opponents in non-conference play in December.

The Rambelles claimed a 72-59 victory over the Hilltoppers in Brownwood, Texas back on December 11th.

Blakely Gerber scored 20 points while Madeline Stephens recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Hilltoppers had four players in double-digits, with Taylor Cockerill scoring 14 points while Haley Blankenship added in 12 points. McCall Hampton and Sammie Dufek scored ten points each for the Hilltoppers.
 
SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
St. Mary's is 1-10 on the season, winning their last game against Texas A&M-Kingsville on December 20th for their first win of the season.

The Rambelles claimed a 69-55 win over the Rattlers back on December 13th, holding the Rattlers to a 28.6 shooting percentage from the field and only allowing one made three-pointer.

McGhee-Pleasant led the Rambelles with 14 points and eight rebounds as well as grabbing six steals; Sawyer Lloyd and Gerber scored 12 points each and Brown added in 11 points.

Tonia Bilic and Hannah Wilson scored 17 and 15 points while also grabbing 12 and 15 rebounds, respectively, to lead the Rattlers in their last matchup. The pair shot a combined 11-29 from the floor in the last matchup while the rest of the team shot 7-34.
 
Following this weekend, the Rambelles play their final non-conference game of the season on January 6th against UT Permian Basin in Odessa.
