SAN ANGELO – For the final time in the 2021-22 season, the Angelo State women's basketball team hits the road to face UAFS and Oklahoma Christian. The Rambelles have won three games in a row and seven of their past eight; after starting the season 0-8, the Rambelles have gone 12-3 overall and despite being picked 15
th in the LSC Preseason Poll, have clinched themselves a spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
The Rambelles' offense has shared the ball a lot this season, averaging 15.9 assists per game, second in the LSC. They also take care of the ball, with their 1.01 assist-to-turnover ratio third in the conference.
Payton Brown and
Sawyer Lloyd are both in the top 12 in the conference in assists per game, with Brown's 4.3 assists per game putting her third while Lloyd is 12
th with 3.4 assists per game.
The Rambelles have four players averaging 10 or more points, led by
Blakely Gerber's 11.9 points per game. The Nazareth native is shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 80.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Brown and Lloyd are averaging 10.9 and 10.8 points per game. Brown ranks second in the conference with 34.6 minutes played per game while Lloyd is shooting 44.4 percent from the field.
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant is averaging 10.3 points per game while averaging 6.6 rebounds per game and shooting 46.5 percent from the field.
Current LSC Defensive Player of the Week
Madeline Stephens is seventh in the LSC with 7.8 boards per game; she is also averaging 9.2 points per game offensively.
Ashlynn Sharp is coming off a 16-point performance against St. Mary's where she shot 4-of-6 from the three-point range. On the season, the Rambelles' lone senior is shooting 41.2 percent from three.
SCOUTING THE LADY LIONS
UAFS is 7-13 overall on the season and 4-6 in conference play. The Lady Lions are currently riding a four-game winning streak dating back to January 25
th.
The Lady Lions' offense is paced by Paige Elston's 14.8 points per game. The senior guard is shooting 83.8 percent from the free-throw line this season.
These two teams have only met once, with the Rambelles claiming a 73-72, comeback victory over the Lady Lions in Fort Smith back on February 15
th, 2020.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Oklahoma Christian enters this weekend with a 2-18 overall record and 2-9 record in conference play; both their wins came last week against St. Mary's and St. Edward's by an average margin of 14 points.
The Eagles have three players averaging more than 10 points per game, led by Brooklin Bain's 16.7 points per game. Kate Bradley, who is averaging 12.2 points per game, leads the conference with 35.7 minutes played per contest.
The Rambelles are 3-2 all-time versus the Eagles, with both Eagles wins coming last season.
Following this weekend, the Rambelles are back home for their final two home games against Texas A&M-Commerce and UT Tyler.
