Rambelles Look to Get Back on Track, Travel to St. Mary’s, St. Edward’s

SAN ANGELO, Texas – After wrapping up their home stand 3-1, the Angelo State women's basketball team hits the road for their next pair of contests, traveling to St. Mary's on Thursday and St. Edward's Saturday.

NEED TO KNOW
  • The Rambelles went 1-1 last week, taking care of business against Midwestern State 85-65 before dropping a physical battle to Cameron 61-57.
  • Sawyer Lloyd eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her career as a Rambelle against Cameron, she accomplished this feat in just 81 games played.
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant leads the Rambelles in scoring, her 16.2 points per game currently ranks third most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Lloyd and Madeline Stephens also rank top 10 in the LSC averaging 14.9 and 14.2 points per game respectively.
  • The Rambelles have made rebounding a staple in the way they play, leading the conference averaging 43.8 boards per game.
  • McGhee-Pleasant (3rd), Lloyd (5th), and Stephens (7th) each rank in the top 10 in rebounding individually, averaging 8.4, 7.8, and 7.7 boards per game.
  • The trio also all rank top six in field goal percentage, led by Stephens' .556, the second-best mark in the LSC.
  • Lloyd also ranks second in the assist's category, averaging 4.9 per game, her 2.3 assist-turnover ratio is the best mark in the conference.
  • Lloyd and McGhee-Pleasant also both rank top 10 in defensive categories, Lloyd is first in steals, averaging 3.1 per game and McGhee-Pleasant is seventh in blocks, averaging 1.2 per contest.
  • The Rambelles are averaging 70.4 points per game, shooting 41.5 percent from the field (6th), 27.2 percent from three (13th), and 69.2 percent from the free throw line (10th).
  • The 70.4 points per contest is the fourth best mark in the LSC, on the defensive end, the Rambelles hold opponents to 61.8 points a game (9th in the LSC).
  • Lloyd and McGhee-Pleasant were named the LSC defensive and offensive players of the week after the Rambelles downed West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian. This is Lloyds third consecutive defensive player of the week and her fifth overall.
  • Lloyd was recognized with her fourth player of the week honor after filling up the stat sheets against Eastern and Western New Mexico. She averaged 15 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals, being named the defensive player of the week for the third time.
  • Lloyd earned her third LSC player of the week honor after wins over UTPB and Schreiner before the winter break. This included a contest with a career high 17 rebounds (vs UTPB) followed up by a season high six steal game against Schreiner.
  • Stephens and Lloyd were named the Lone Star Conference offensive and defensive players of the week following their efforts in the wins over TAMUK, TAMIU in week four.
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant scored 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the third week of the season.
  • Payton Brown had a 13-point, six rebound, and three steal game that saw her honored as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the Rambelles upset win over Eckerd College in week three.
  • Lloyd averaged 22 points and eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week in week one.
 
ANGELO STATE vs ST. MARY'S
  • The Rattlers host the Rambelles on the heels of a split last week after defeating UAFS 75-56 and losing to Oklahoma Christian 71-50.
  • The win over UAFS snapped an eight-game losing streak for StMU and was their second conference victory.
  • The Rambelles lead the all-time series between the two sides 32-24, winning the last two and four out of the last five matchups.
  • The Rattlers are middle of the pack on both ends, ranking 10th in scoring offense and 11th in scoring defense.
  • StMU struggles from the free throw line, shooting a conference worst 62.1 percent.
  • Gabby Elliott is the only Rattler who averages in double figures as she puts in 12.1 points per game while grabbing a team best 6.8 rebounds.
 
ANGELO STATE vs ST. EDWARDS'S
  • The Hilltoppers went 2-0 last week, defeating both Oklahoma Christian (57-46) and UAFS (78-73).
  • SEU will matchup with UT Permian Basin on Thursday before hosting the Rambelles Saturday afternoon.
  • The Rambelles lead the all-time series 18-9 over the Hilltoppers and have won seven of their last eight matchups with SEU taking the most recent contest last season 71-67.
  • The Hilltoppers struggle on the offensive end, averaging only 61.4 points per game, but show their strength defensively, holding opponent to 61.1 points.
  • A trio of Hilltoppers average double figures, led by graduate forward Morgan Gary who puts in 10.8 points per game.
  • Gary also leads SEU in rebounding, pulling in 6.9 boards per contest.
