Rambelles Return Home, Face Eastern, Western New Mexico

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Coming off a 2-0 week on the road, the Angelo State women's basketball team is back home for a pair of games at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center to face Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, Jan 26th and Western New Mexico on Saturday, Jan 28th.

NEED TO KNOW
  • The Rambelles picked up two more conference wins on the road last week, defeating St. Mary's 56-55 and St. Edward's 63-51.
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant leads the Rambelles in scoring, her 16.2 points per game currently ranks third most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Sawyer Lloyd and Madeline Stephens also rank top 10 in the LSC averaging 14.6 and 14.0 points per game respectively.
  • The Rambelles have made rebounding a staple in the way they play, leading the conference and ranking 14th in the nation averaging 43.1 boards per game.
  • McGhee-Pleasant (4th), Lloyd (6th), and Stephens (7th) each rank in the top 10 in rebounding individually, averaging 8.0, 7.7, and 7.6 boards per game.
  • The trio also all rank top six in field goal percentage, led by Stephens' .541, the second-best mark in the LSC.
  • Lloyd also ranks first in the assist's category, averaging 5.2 per game, her 2.2 assist-turnover ratio is the best mark in the conference.
  • Lloyd, an exercise science major, ranks 14th in NCAA DII with her 5.2 assists per game and is 10th in assists with 98. She also ranks seventh in steals with 59 and is ninth in steals per game averaging 3.11.
  • Lloyd and McGhee-Pleasant also both rank top 10 in defensive categories, Lloyd is first in steals, averaging 3.1 per game and McGhee-Pleasant is seventh in blocks, averaging 1.1 per contest.
  • The Rambelles are averaging 69.3 points per game, shooting 41.6 percent from the field (5th), 28.1 percent from three (12th), and 68.6 percent from the free throw line (11th).
  • The 69.3 points per contest is the fourth best mark in the LSC, on the defensive end, the Rambelles hold opponents to 60.8 points a game (8th in the LSC).
  • As a team the Rambelles hold opponents to a 34.2 clip from the field, that is the ninth best ranking in NCAA DII women's basketball.
  • Lloyd and McGhee-Pleasant were named the LSC defensive and offensive players of the week after the Rambelles downed West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian. This is Lloyds third consecutive defensive player of the week and her fifth overall.
  • Lloyd was recognized with her fourth player of the week honor after filling up the stat sheets against Eastern and Western New Mexico. She averaged 15 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals, being named the defensive player of the week for the third time.
  • Lloyd earned her third LSC player of the week honor after wins over UTPB and Schreiner before the winter break. This included a contest with a career high 17 rebounds (vs UTPB) followed up by a season high six steal game against Schreiner.
  • Stephens and Lloyd were named the Lone Star Conference offensive and defensive players of the week following their efforts in the wins over TAMUK, TAMIU in week four.
  • McGhee-Pleasant, a kinesiology major, scored 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the third week of the season.
  • Payton Brown had a 13-point, six rebound, and three steal game that saw her honored as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the Rambelles upset win over Eckerd College in week three.
  • Lloyd averaged 22 points and eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week in week one.
 
ANGELO STATE vs EASTERN NEW MEXICO
  • The Greyhounds ended a three-game losing streak last week, beating Texas A&M International 73-67 at home before losing a tight game to Texas A&M-Kingsville 50-48.
  •  ENMU is 8-9 on the season and is currently 5-7 in conference play. The Rambelles defeated the Greyhounds 73-63 in Portales on Jan. 1st.
  • Both Lloyd and Stephens recorded double-doubles in the victory earlier in the season with Lloyd leading the way with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
  • The Rambelles have now won their last two games over the Greyhounds and have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the sides.
  • Deja Adrian is the Greyhounds leading scorer, the second-best scorer in the LSC, averaging 16.9 points per game.
  • The Greyhounds rank second in the LSC in rebounding, bringing in 41.6 per game, only averaging less than the Rambelles.
 
ANGELO STATE vs WESTERN NEW MEXICO
  • The Mustangs are 5-11 this season and are now 3-9 in conference play after going 1-1 last week picking up a win over Texas A&M International, losing to Texas A&M-Kingsville.
  • The Rambelles picked up a win in the team's first meeting this season, defeating WNMU in a tight 54-50 contest at Drag's Court.
  • McGhee-Pleasant led the way for the Rambelles in that meeting, scoring 19 points, pulling in a career high 17 rebounds.
  • Diamond Moore leads the way for the Mustangs offensively, averaging 12.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.
  • WNMU struggles offensively, averaging only 59.4 points per game, second worst in the LSC, but make up for it on the defensive end, holding opponents to just 58.6 points per game, second best in the LSC.
