Women's Basketball Will Burrow, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Rambelles to Victory Over Greyhounds

SAN ANGELO, Texas - At the conclusion of 40 minutes of back-and-forth action, the Angelo State women's basketball team made it five wins in a row after defeating Eastern New Mexico 66-55 at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center Saturday afternoon.
 
The Rambelles improve to 11-4 on the season and 5-1 in Lone Star Conference play. The Greyhounds fall to 4-8 overall and 0-6 in LSC action.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • The Rambelles came hot out of the gates, going on a 9-3 run in the first five minutes of action.
  • With one-minute remaining in the quarter, ENMU took the lead 13-11, until a pair of free throws with 30 seconds left by Madeline Stephens tied the game 13-13 going into the second quarter.
  • The Greyhounds scored the quarter's first four points to give ENMU a four-point lead with 8:50 remaining in the half.
  • The Rambelles would tie the game at 19-19 off of a three-pointer by Madi Lumsden with 6:35 remaining.
  • The Rambelles would go on a 9-0 run to end the half leading, 28-19 going into halftime.
  • The Greyhounds would come out of the break hot, scoring the first six points of the second half, bringing the deficit to four with 8:34 remaining in the third quarter.
  • A three-pointer from Jaz Salon would tie the game 38-38 at the 3:00 minute marker.
  • The Rambelles would go into the fourth quarter up five, 45-40, after a harrowing drive through the lane by Madeline Stephens.
  • The Belles would keep the game out of reach for the Greyhounds in the final quarter, never having less than a five-point lead. 
  • The Rambelles would outscore ENMU 21-15 in the last quarter to secure the win and bring their winning streak to five.
 
GAME STATS 
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant was the game-leading scorer with 20 points, pulling in nine rebounds, two assists, and one block.
  • For her encore performance after her career night, Madeline Stephens scored 16 points and grabbed nine boards.
  • Keniah Williams would have 11 points, four rebounds, and five blocks.
  • Madi Lumsden would play in the most amount of minutes that she has played all year scoring eight points and two rebounds.
  • The Belles would shoot 47 percent (25-53) from the field, a season-high 42.9 percent (6-14) from behind the arc, and 58 percent (10-17) from the charity stripe.
  • A complete performance was turned in offensively by the Blue and Gold, as they registered 16 assists and had 19 points off the bench.
  • The Rambelles would outrebound the Greyhounds, 43-27.
  • The Belles wouldn't trail for the entire second half.
