Hall of Honor
A West Texas native, Slaughter played three years for the Blue and Gold while captaining all three seasons. He was named an All-Conference linebacker and won two Nathan’s Awards before beginning his coaching career illustrious coaching career. A member of the Lake View Hall of Fame, Slaughter tallied a 56-38 overall record while leading the Chiefs to two district titles and their first playoff win in 1979. He went on to coach at several other spots before tallying 206 career wins, one of only 70 Texas coaches to break the 200-win mark.
